Hot pavement is a health risk for dog paws


Even on mildly warm days, pavement can heat up to extreme temperatures, threatening to scorch your dog's delicate paws. This can turn a pleasant walk into a painful ordeal very quickly. A dog’s pain threshold is 120 F (49 C) and burns will develop when the paws touch surfaces of 130 F and above (54 C).

We engourage you to perform a "palm test" by placing your hand on the pavement; if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog also.

What you can do to avoid burns on your dog’s paws is to apply weekly paw wax which offers a protective barrier. You can also keep a set of summer booties ready for those sunny days.
